Delhi: Massive crackdown on polluting industrial units

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has slapped environment damage charges of Rs one lakh each on 765 units for directly or indirectly causing pollution.

Also, environment damage charges of Rs 50,000 each, was imposed on 800 more units who were found throwing solid waste into the drain or discharging untreated effluents into storm water drains. In addition, direction of closure was also issued, the DPCC said in a press statement.

The pollution control body has also made the South Delhi Municipal Council to remove 305 tonnes of scrap lying on public land in the Mayapuri Industrial area. For East Delhi Municipal Council, it issued directions for closure or sealing of all godowns being run in the Sonia Vihar area.

The DPCC has also ordered authorities in the three MCDs to close all polluting industries in non-conforming areas/residential areas.
