Frequent thefts: GTB docs want security guards replaced

Rohit Shishodia
Resident Doctors of Delhi’s University College of Medical Sciences attached with GTB hospital have demanded replacing a number of security guards deployed in the hospital premises.

In a letter to medical director of the hospital the doctors have stated that security services provided by security guards are very poor and unsatisfactory. The doctors said that the number of security guards should also be increased to prevent thefts in Doctors Duty Room and treatment facilities.

The doctors said that security guards deployed presently in the hospital cannot tackle cases of theft. Recently, the mobile phone of resident doctor serving in anesthesia department was stolen by someone from the Doctors Duty Room located in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).

The thief who stole the mobile phone was caught by the doctors and was handed over to the police. A separate letter to HOD of anesthesia department has also been written on April 15, 2019, to recruit security guards in MICU. The doctors said that there should be deployment of security guards in MICU to prevent the thefts.

The doctors said that security guards cannot manage rush of patients inside the hospital and they run away when relatives of patients manhandle the doctors. These security guards also behave very rudely with patients. Therefore, they should be replaced with efficient security guards.

Dr Anand Chopra, President, RDA-GTB Hospital, told DTMT: “Cases of theft have increased due to lack of security guards in the sensitive treatment facilities such as MICU. Anybody can enter the MICU. The existing number of security guards is unable to manage the rush of patients. Their behavior with patients is also unsatisfactory.”
