Psychiatrists demand 'Mental Hai Kya' film's title change

BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI: The Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS) has taken strong objection to the title and teasers of the upcoming film "Mental Hai Kya" which is produced by Ekta Kapoor and features Kangna Ranaut and Rajkumar Rao.

The General Secretary of the Society Dr Vinay Kumar has issued a statement claiming that the title "Mental Hai Kya" is derogatory to people fighting mental maladies as it is sarcastic and ridicules pain. He points out that having mental illness is neither a crime nor a curse.

Dr Kumar has referred to Section 92 of the Rights of Persons With Disability Act which provides for a imprisonment up to five years for whoever insults a person with disability.

He also refers to a scene in the teaser where the lead actors are balancing a blade between their tongues.

Dr Kumar has asked the producers to revise the title of the film, withdraw its teaser and make changes in the film so as not to hurt sentiments or provoke youngsters to risk their lives.
