Unpaid salaries: Hindu Rao docs write to President to permit mass suicide

BS RAWAT

NEW DELHI: Upset over unpaid salaries, 500 resident doctors of North MCD’s Hindu Rao Hospital have written to President Ram Nath Kovind seeking permission to commit mass suicide.

Dr Rahul Choudhary, president of the Resident Doctors Association (RDA), told DTMT: "The resident doctors regularly work for 48 hours. Their salaries for last three months were kept on hold by administration for no reason.”

He announced, “When the residents did not get a satisfactory response for the last five days, the doctors decided to write a letter to the President of India requesting him to allow them to commit mass suicide."

He added: "When we met the additional commissioner (public health) of north corporation last week, he only said they haven’t got the money from the Delhi government and are hence unable to pay us.”

Dr Sanjeev Choudhary, General Secretary of RDA, said, “Now we have no option, and will be taking this extreme step after permission of the President.”

Meanwhile, in a unique protest, the resident doctors will take to the streets on May 21, 2019, and beg for money from commuters to feed their families. They alleged that the Delhi government and the North MCD did not have money to pay their long pending salaries.

The protesters will take out a march from the office of the Medical superintendent, Hindu Rao Hospital, to North MCD office at the Civic Center, Delhi.
