Docs give Rs 45 lakh to colleague having brain tumor

Dr Ajay Jaryal, President of Resident Doctors Association, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, was shocked when he was recently diagnosed with brain tumor. What made him even more worried was the treatment cost of around Rs 30 lakh.

Unfazed by the fear of the disease and determined to achieve early recovery, Dr Jaryal sought financial help from his doctor friends for the proton cancer therapy at Chennai’s Apollo hospital.  

His appeal worked and got more than the money recquired for his treatment. He has received Rs 45 lakh in his account for the treatment. Thanking his friends who helped him in such a time, Dr Jaryal said that he needed Rs 30 lakh for treatment that made him worried but his friends not only wished him speedy recovery but they also credited Rs 45 lakh in his account.

He further said that with this financial help he is secured now and is not concerned about his disease. He thanked his junior and senior doctors for help. Initially, Dr Jaryal was treated in PGI-Chandigarh but was later referred to Chennai’s Apollo hospital for further treatment.

As RDA-President of IGMC, Dr Jaryal has been proactive in raising issues related to doctors such as poor working conditions of doctors, bank guarantee and issue of salary. He had also sent a letter to the National Human Rights Commission that highlighted poor conditions of living rooms of doctors.
