Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal

Kejriwal to Dr Vardhan: Our health scheme much bigger than Ayushman Bharat

 BS RAWAT
NEW DELHI : Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has written to Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, saying that the Delhi government's health scheme is "ten times bigger and comprehensive" than the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Kejriwal said if the AAP government's health scheme is closed and the Ayushman Bharat is implemented in Delhi, it will be a huge loss for the residents of the national capital.

The chief minister's comments came two day's after Dr Harsh Vardhan wrote to the chief ministers of Delhi, Odisha, Telangana and West Bengal, urging them to join the Center’s health scheme.

Ayushman Bharat Scheme aims to provide a health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family annually, benefiting more than 10.74 crore poor patients and their families for secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation through a network of empaneled healthcare providers.

Kejriwal stated, "I am happy to tell you that Ayushman Bharat has already been executed in Delhi a long time back which is ten times bigger and comprehensive."

In his two-page letter in Hindi to Dr Harsh Vardhan, the chief minister said that despite Ayushman Bharat being in place in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, lakhs of patients from these two states come to Delhi every day to get the best treatment.

Barely any resident of Delhi goes to Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to get medical treatment, which indicates that Delhi's health scheme is performing well, Kejriwal said.
