2,500 Ayush wellness centers across India soon

The Central Government will set up 2,500 AYUSH wellness centers in India during the Ist phase of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.

Union AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik said, “We have a quota of setting up 1.12 lakh AYUSH wellness centres across the country under Ayushman Bharat scheme. In the first phase, we will set up 2500 wellness centres.”

The minister said his ministry was also in the process of setting up 150 AYUSH hospitals, for which the Union Government will provide funds.

Mr Naik said that every primary health centre (PHC) in the country will have a physician from alternative medicine systems,besides an allopathy doctor.

Naik said physicians either from Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani or Siddha streams will be placed at the government-run primary health centres.

“All PHCs in India will now have AYUSH physicians besides allopathy practitioners,” the minister said.

He stated the patients would be introduced to alternative medicine through such steps.

“Right now, the PHCs have physicians only from Allopathy stream but now there will be also a physician  from Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy,” the minister said.
