Dr Harsh Vardhan advocates a push to achieve full immunization targets

India’s Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan has said that there is a need to shun the routine approach to achieve the full immunization targets in the stipulated time frame. There is need for a spirited push and aggressive approach to make sure that no child is left without vaccine protection.
In a review meeting on child and maternal deaths on June 12, 2019, Dr Vardhan said that the government will make immediate and sustained efforts by 2022 on zero child health death due to diarrhea. He said that there is an urgent need to devise innovative strategies and encourage new ideas and innovations so that India is able to reach the unreached.
Dr Vardhan has also appealed that all gynecologists and health activists should join the health ministry for a Jan Andolan (Mass Movement) to prevent child and maternal deaths.
Dr. Vardhan has directed senior officials of the health ministry to brainstorm the proposed strategies with gynecologists, nutritionists, management experts, pediatricians and engage various government departments, the private sector and civil society to prevent maternal and child deaths.
Dr Vardhan pointed out that innovative strategies combined with sturdy monitoring and effective surveillance are required to ensure that government’s interventions are effective in achieving the desired results.
