India’s Health Minister, Dr Harsh Vardhan, has come out in support of West Bengal doctors who have been on strike over the brutal  assaults on their colleagues in the NRS Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on June 10, 2019.

Dr Vardhan, who is an ENT specialist, said that it is necessary and important for the doctors to get a safe work environment. He has said that that he shall take up the issue of violence against doctors with the Chief Ministers so that such incidents can be avoided in the future.

Dr Vardhan said that doctors face a lot of stress and difficulties in their work. He urged patients and attendants to practice restraint while dealing with doctors.

He, however, also urged the doctors to observe restraint so that essential services are not disrupted.
