Doctors' strike to continue, countrywide shutdown on Monday

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has taken a decision to intensify the agitation by doctors across the country in the coming days, which will culminate into a total shutdown of health services pan-India on Monday, June 17, 2019. The total shutdown will include the withdrawal of all non-essential services from 6 am on June 17 to 6 am the next day.
The IMA has taken a further decision to continue the ongoing strike and protest by doctors on June 15 and on June 16 as well. The continued protest will include the wearing of black badges, dharnas, peace marches etc.
Dr R V Asokan, Hony General Secretary of IMA, has requested all associations of the medical fraternity to join the struggle against the violence on doctors.
Dr Asokan has pointed out that Dr Pratibha Mukherjee, the young doctor who was brutally attacked by a violent mob in the NRS Medical College in Kolkata is in a critical condition and is fighting for his life.
The IMA has once again demanded a national law against violence on doctors with a minimum sentence of seven years for the perpetrators.
