Around 1000 resident doctors at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital and 80 resident doctors at Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences in Delhi struck work on Saturday in support of West Bengal doctors who have been on strike for six days due to brutal attack on their colleagues in NRS Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata.

Doctors associated with Resident Doctors Association at GTB hospital and IHBAS demanded the arrest of culprits who attacked the doctors and a safe working environment in hospitals.

Dr Saqib, President,  RDA-GTBH told DTMT that attack on West Bengal doctors was a barbaric incident and it looked like a terrorist attack as a mob of 200 people brutally assaulted doctors with no fault of theirs.

"I can understand their pain. We demand that laws should be enacted so no incident like this one should be repeated again. I appeal to patients and their care givers that they should keep faith in doctors, " added Dr Saqib.

"They should understand that patients do not die of doctors' fault. If they feel that it was doctor's negligence due to which patient died, then they should complain to the highest authorities  instead of taking law into their hands. We will end our strike immediately if West Bengal government takes action against culprits who attacked the doctors, " he explained.

Dr Kumar Gaurav, President-RDA,  IHBAS, said that West Bengal government thinks that doctors are not working and doctors  are wrong on their end,  which is not true. "We have come together and expressed solidarity with West Bengal doctors. We want to show unity which works for welfare for doctors, " added Gaurav.

The doctors said they never discriminate on basis of religion, caste or creed of patients. For them all patients are equal. They take oath for this.
