Telangana: Jr docs strike over retirement age hike

 Rohit Shishodia
As the Telangana government has not made any move to pacify the ongoing protest by junior doctors against a hike in age of retirement, the Telangana Junior Resident Doctors Association has started boycotting elective services from June 19, 2019, in all medical colleges of the state.

On June 18, 2019, junior doctors in Osmania Medical College and Gandhi Medical College struck work but today all junior doctors will boycott the non-essential services against the government’s move.

On June 18, 2019, the Telangana Junior doctors had written a letter to the state’s Medical Director of Education informing that they will boycott elective services on June 19, 2019.

The junior doctors had urged the Medical Director to make necessary arrangements. The strike will impact healthcare as many patients who go to government health facilities will not get treatment.

The doctors said that hiking retirement age will hinder their employment opportunities as the doctors getting late retirement will delay the entry of young doctors in the hospitals.
