Internal enquiry looks into cause of AIIMS-Delhi fire

After a massive fire gutted the teachers block and microbiology lab at Delhi-AIIMS on August 17, 2019, the hospital administration has initiated an internal enquiry to look into the cause of the fire and further strengthen preventive measures.
A hospital official has informed that the hospital, along with the emergency department and emergency laboratories, is fully functional now.
“AIIMS has regular fire prevention system. There are fire personnel deployed round the clock with fire fighting safety systems being regularly tested including clearance of fire exits and corridors. Awareness of the fire system staff is conducted regularly,” states a press release issued by Prof Arti Vij, Chairperson, Media and Protocol Division of AIIMS.
On August 18, 2018, AIIMS director Prof Randeep Guleria held a meeting with all the heads of departments and administrative staff to review hospital patient care services.
Prof Guleria set up a committee to restore the full functionality of services in the affected teaching block. Additional staff has been deployed for guiding the patients.
The massive fire that spread from the first to the fifth floor above the emergency, had gutted the pre-clinical and teaching block that houses the microbiology lab. The fire destroyed blood samples and research material.
