COVID cases will peak by the end of January and  are likely to cross second wave numbers, Prof Manindra Agarwal from IIT-Kanpur, informed the media on January 10, 2022 while sharing his views on third COVID wave.

Prof Agarwal said that as per preliminary data COVID cases will peak at the end of this month but the decline of cases will be equally sharp. By March 2022 it will be over, he added.

On the current COVID situation in cities, Prof Agarwal pointed out that cases in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata are likely to peak around the middle of this month. In fact, in the next few days, he added.

“But this will be almost over by the end of this month in these cities,” he added.

It may be noted that cases are surging across India. Kolkata, Mumbai and Delhi are the major cities where COVID cases are constantly increasing  over 20000.

It is understood that the Omicron variant of Coronavirus has contributed 80% of total COVID cases.
