NEW DELHI: Those who follow the simple principles of  diabetes therapy are generally safe and lead a good quality of life, says Prof. (Dr.) Anoop Misra, Chairman, Fortis-CDOC, New Delhi.

Launching his book “Diabetes with Delight,” Dr Misra said, “This book aims to provide-time tested simple advice on various aspects of diabetes and obesity, amalgamated with recent knowledge, and most importantly, suitably tailored for Indians.”

He claimed, “In this aspect, psyche of Indians patients, uniqueness of Indian diets, and need for individualized exercise framework for Indian bodies has been highlighted in the book.”

Dr Misra said that those impacted by diabetes are living longer now. This is because of effective treatments and change in lifestyle. Early diagnosis and effective treatment have meant that the suffering from diabetes related complications is much less now.

Children who earlier needed to have 3-5 injections of insulin daily, are living comfortably with the aid of an insulin pump now.

Compared to a few decades ago, there has been an exponential rise in the prevalence of diabetes among Indians. Keeping up with this ever-evolving research, the book attempts to demystify the myths and conundrums surrounding this chronic disease while presenting the latest in this field.

Can we prevent diabetes? Once it develops, can we reverse it? Can we avoid dangerous and crippling complications? How do we manage diabetes at workplace? Such questions have been answered by continuous research and advances in drug and insulin therapy, and discussed in various sections of Dr Misra's book.
