NEW DELHI : A six hour open heart surgery at Max Hospital, Vaishali, Ghaziabad, saved an 83 year old businessman who had suffered a massive heart attack. The patient had a ruptured wall of the left ventricle of his heart which caused internal bleeding.
The patient, Mr N S Mehra, from Preet Vihar, Delhi, had a history of hypertension and suffered the massive heart attack at his home. He was rushed to Max Super Speciality Hospitals, Vaishali, within 25 minutes.
His early arrival at the hospital was a blessing. The patient was scheduled for an immediate surgery and put on a heart-lung machine and his heart was arrested for almost two hours.
Mr Mehra is now stable after a six-hour high risk successful life-saving surgery.
Dr Gaurav Mahajan, Principal Consultant & Head –CTVS of the hospital said, “An ECHO confirmed our diagnosis and without losing a single second, a highly complex open heart surgery was performed by a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, technicians and nurses.”
Dr Mahajan informed, “We repaired the rupture through a double suturing using synthetic materials and the pericardium.”
“After a week of post-surgery care and observation, Mr Mehra was discharged with a positive prognosis,” said Dr. Mahajan.
