Dabigatran Etexilate
Dabigatran is an anticoagulant that works by the clotting protein thrombin. It is used to prevent blood clots from forming because of a certain irregular heart rhythm (atrial fibrillation). Preventing these blood clots helps to reduce the risk of a stroke.To reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation.
Oral; 150mg twice daily, dose depends on renal clearance
Active bleeding Hypersensitivity.
Paediatric: Safety not established. Pregnancy: Category C; Use if risk to fetus outweighs benefits. Lactation: Not known if secreted in milk. Elderly: The risk of stroke and bleeding inreases with age, but the risk-benefit profile is favorable in all age groups.
