Ramosetron HCL
It is a long acting 5-HT3 receptor antagonist. It improves abnormal bowel movement by inhibiting 5-HT3 receptor selectively. It also improves visceral hypersensitivity.Diarrhea - predominant irritable bowel syndrome in male patients.
Oral : 5mcg one a day. Maximum daily dose is 10mcg.
Not recommended to women because of high incidence of side effects. Hypersensitivity.
Should not be used in patients with constipation predominant irritable bowel syndrome. Diseases showing similar symptoms as IBS should be excluded prior to inhibition of therapy with ramosetron.
Nausea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Hard stool, constipation, bloating, reflux esophagitis, duodenal ulcer, palpitation, hepatic dysfunction, proteinurea, thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis.
CYP1A2 drugs, Tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazine antipsychotics, anticholinergics MAO inhibitors opiod agents.
