Flucytosine

Indications

Used as antifungal; septicemia, endocarditis, urinary infection, meningitis, pulmonary infection caused by Candida or Cryptococcus fungus.

Dosage

Oral; 50-150mg/kg/day in divided doses at 6 hour interval.

Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity to drug.

Special Precautions

Electrolyte and renal function to be monitored. Paediatric: Safety and efficacy not yet established. Pregnancy: Category X. Lactation: Data not sufficient; Not known if it is excreted in milk, decision to discontinue drug may be taken depending on importance of drug to mother Elderly: Data not sufficient.
