NYSTATIN

Similar to AMB in antifungal action and other properties, because of higher systemic toxicity it is used only locally.

Indications

Candida (monilia) albicans: intestinal moniliasis & monilia infections of the blood stream, lungs, kidney, bladder or other organs.


Dosage

5 lac to 10 lac U 3-4 times daily. For oral thrush tablet may be sucked or crushed and suspended in glycerine for application in mouth.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity reactions.


Special Precautions

Discontinue if sensitivity occurs. Paediatrics: Reduced dose necessary. Pregnancy & Lactation:No evidence of risk. Elderly: Safe.


Side Effects

Nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea in high doses.
