Oseltamivir

It is a selective neuraminidase inhibitor. Treatment must start within 48 hours after the onset of symptoms, but is most effective if initiated as soon as possible (

Indications

Uncomplicated acute illness due to influenza infection in patients aged 1 year and older who have been symptomatic for no more than 2 days.

Dosage

75mg bid for 5 days. Dosage for Prophylaxis : 75mg once daily for at least 7 days following contact with an infected individual.

Contra-Indications

Treatment of influenza in paediatric patients younger than 1 year.

Side Effects

Nausea and vomiting.
