PROPYPHENAZONE

Another pyrazolone, similar in properties to metamizol. However it is claimed to be better tolerated. Agranulocytosis has not been reported.

Indications

Pain and fever.


Dosage

150-300 mg, 3 times a day.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity, porphyria.


Special Precautions

Renal or hepatic impairment, alcohol-dependent patients.


Side Effects

Vivid color change in urine Headache, rash, pruritus Occasional gastrointestinal disturbance such as nausea, epigastric pain especially when not taken with food Rarely an anaphylactoid like reaction Pigment change in the skin or eyes Swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or legs. Methemoglobinemia, hemolytic anemia, renal and hepatic toxicity usually at over dosage levels.


Drug Interactions

Metabolism is affected by other drugs that affect hepatic enzymatic function.
