PROTHIONAMIDE
Prothionamide is a drug that is mostly used for effective treatment of tuberculosis. It may also be a potent medication in certain cases of leprosy. It helps slowing down the spread of the disease by inhibiting further growth of bacteria and other pathogens.When there is a failure after adequate treatment with primary drugs (i.e. isoniazid, streptomycin & PAS) along with other anti-tuberculous drugs.
1 Tab twice daily.
Hypersensitivity to Pothionamide
Monitor blood glucose, thyroid and visual function. Perform LFT before and during treatment. Caution in patients with psychiatric illness or depression. Pregnancy and lactation.
Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhoea, Skin rash, Alopecia, Anorexia, Arthralgia
Alters the actions of OHAs and disturbs blood glucose levels.
