QUINIDINE PHENYLETHYL BARBITURATE

Besides its action on the cardiovascular system, it has by its action on the C.N.S. analgesic effects. It has dual action on the skeletal muscle; it acts directly on the muscle fibre and also effects neuromuscular transmission by increasing the threshold of excitability of the motor end-plates.

Indications

Anxiety, Insomnia, Irritability. Anguish, Unjustified restlessness. Pre-operative or post-operative and obstetrical apprehension. Nocturnal muscular Cramps. Pains due to nervous hyperexcitability. Cases refractory to other sedatives. Palpitations, extrasystoles. Cardiac erethism. Prophylactic treatment of paroxystic tachycardias and complete tachyarrhythmias. Disturbances of the rhythm supervening in the course of myocardial infarct. Functional disturbances of hypertension and arteriosclerosis.


Dosage

Adults: 100-300 mg daily, may be doubled insubjects who tolerate the product well. Children: 25-100 mg daily.


Contra-Indications

Heart block.


Special Precautions

Impaired general alertness, drive or operate heavy machinery, hepatic impairment. Paediatrics: Reduced dose necessary. Pregnancy: No serious side effect. Lactation: Not recommended. Elderly: The dose to be reduced.


Side Effects

Postural hypotension.


Drug Interactions

Altered digoxin level.
