Tereperatide

Tereperatide

It is a synthetic form of the naturally occuring parathyroid hormone. Unlike other osteoporosis drugs, it actually causes bone density to increase. It is used to treat osteoporosis. It causes new bone formation.

Indications

Treatment of Postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at high risk for fracture, increase of bone mass in men with primary or hypogonadal osteoporosis at high risk for fracture, glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis at high risk for fracture.


Dosage

S.C.; 20mcg once daily.


Contra-Indications

Hypersensitivity.


Special Precautions

Paediatric: Safety not established. Pregnancy: Category C; Use if risk to fetus outweighs benefits. Lactation: Discontinue breast feeding. Elderly: Use with caution.


Side Effects

Dizziness, nausea, heartburn, diarrhea, headache and leg cramps, pain, weakness, and depression, lowered blood pressure hypotension.


Drug Interactions

Digoxin, hydrochlorothiazide, Furosemide.
