Safdarjung hospital to start paid wards for patients
In an effort to provide better facilities to patients and their attendants who seek private wards for admissions and are willing to pay for such services, Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital is going to start a 20-bedded facility at the Super Specialty Block of the hospital on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday.
“The facility will be inaugurated by Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on September 17, 2022, on the occasion of the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Prof (Dr) BL Sherwal, the Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital said while speaking to Drug Today Medical Times.
“The wards are well equipped and they have been at the Super Specialty Block of the hospital. Initially, 20 beds are being readied for admission. The charges of the rooms have been fixed as per the rates of the Central Government Health Scheme,” Prof Sherwal added, stressing that the facility will benefit patients who can afford private rooms.
Prof Sherwal pointed out that currently there are 192 general and 22 ICU private beds at the super speciality block of the hospital. Initially, we are going to start with 20 beds, he added.
It may be noted that Safdarjung hospital, one of the largest public health facilities in India, where 15,000 to 18,000 patients visit the hospital to get treatment every day in its outpatient department.
Hundreds of patients also rush to the emergency and other departments for urgent treatment per day. Many patients who require admission are forced to seek treatment elsewhere due to 100% of occupation of ICU and general wards.
The new private ward facility will help those patients who can afford the paid wards, Prof Sherwal said.
