Cases of liver cancer rising in India
One in 89 people is at risk of developing liver cancer. 26000 cases were detected in 2020 In India. On the one hand cases of oral cavity, larynx cancer cases are coming down due to tobacco control but on the other hand alcohol consumption is increasing and so are liver cancer cases, Dr Kishore Singh, Director, Delhi State Cancer Institute (DSCI) said.
While addressing the media on the occasion of World Cancer Day, Dr Singh added, “We should start planning as strategic management to prevent cancer. Availability of drugs has increased so has the survivorship,” he added.
“It really does not matter how much funds the Government is allocating for Health, what really matters is Awareness among people in terms of lifestyle, habits, diet and exercise to stay healthy,” Dr Singh further said.
Dr Sajjan Rajpurohit , Director, Medical Oncology & Centre Head of Max Super speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, said, “A little prevention in terms of Liver Cancer can cure much. Alcoholism has become a part of our lifestyle. Liver cancer does not happen in a day. It is 70-80 per cent preventable so just by paying attention towards symptoms we may save ourselves from Liver Cancer.”
