A 77 mm Stone, Months of Pain—and One Surgery That Changed Everything

What started as a nagging discomfort soon turned into months of unbearable pain for a 33-year-old man, until a team of doctors stepped in and changed his life in a single surgery. At RG Hospitals’ Gagan Vihar centre, surgeons successfully removed a massive bladder stone measuring 77 × 65 mm—one of the largest seen in such cases—bringing the patient complete relief.

For nearly half a year, the man had been dealing with constant lower abdominal pain and frequent, urgent trips to the bathroom. What seemed like a minor issue at first gradually took over his daily life. Like many patients, he delayed seeking proper medical help, hoping the symptoms would go away on their own. But they didn’t. Instead, they worsened.

When he finally underwent tests, doctors discovered the real problem—an unusually large bladder stone along with inflammation of the bladder. The situation was serious enough to require immediate attention, as further delay could have led to dangerous complications.

That’s when the urology team, led by Dr. Manoj Jain and supported by Dr. Ajay Aggarwal, made a crucial call. Given the size of the stone, they decided to go ahead with an open cystolithotomy, a surgical procedure typically reserved for complex cases. It was a bold but necessary decision aimed at ensuring complete removal in one go.

The surgery itself was a success story. With careful planning and precise execution, the team managed to remove the entire stone in a single procedure, achieving 100% clearance. For the patient, it marked the end of months of discomfort and the beginning of a normal life again.

Doctors say cases like this are not uncommon, especially when symptoms are ignored or diagnosis is delayed. But timely intervention and the right surgical approach can make all the difference. In this case, it certainly did.

Just a few days after the operation, the patient was discharged in stable condition—pain-free and relieved of the urinary issues that had been troubling him for so long. His recovery has been smooth, and his story now stands as a powerful reminder of how modern medical care, when combined with expertise and timely action, can truly transform lives.

At RG Hospitals, this case is yet another example of how advanced urological care is helping patients get back on their feet—sometimes faster than they ever imagined.
