The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, on March 24, 2026 confirmed the passing of Mr. Harish Rana, who died at 4:10 PM while under medical care at the institute.

According to an official press release issued by the AIIMS Media Cell, Mr. Rana had been receiving treatment at the Palliative Oncology Unit (IRCH). He was attended by a specialized team of doctors led by Dr. (Prof.) Seema Mishra, Head of Onco-Anaesthesia and Palliative Medicine.

Notably, Mr. Rana was the first patient in India to be granted permission for euthanasia by the Supreme Court of India, marking a significant moment in the country’s medical and legal landscape.

The hospital noted that Mr. Rana was under dedicated care during his final days, highlighting the efforts of the medical team in providing comprehensive support and treatment.

In its statement, AIIMS expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family. “AIIMS extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time,” the release said.
