In a remarkable display of surgical precision and teamwork, doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences Gorakhpur successfully performed a highly complex surgery to remove a massive tumor weighing nearly 1.8 kilograms from a 53-year-old patient from West Champaran, Bihar.

The patient had been battling a steadily growing swelling near the face and neck for several years. What began as a medical concern gradually turned into a life-altering condition, causing visible facial deformity and making everyday activities increasingly difficult.

According to the institute, specialists from the ENT Department, working closely with the Anesthesia team, carried out a Radical Parotidectomy — a challenging surgical procedure used to remove tumors affecting the parotid gland, one of the major salivary glands located near the jaw and ear.

After extensive clinical examinations and radiological investigations, the medical team successfully removed the tumor in its entirety. Doctors identified the growth as a pleomorphic adenoma, a rare but potentially dangerous tumor that can become enormous if left untreated for long periods.

What makes this case particularly extraordinary is the size of the tumor. Weighing around 1.8 kg after removal, it ranks among the largest parotid tumors documented in recent medical cases.

The successful operation not only restored hope for the patient but also highlighted the growing medical capabilities of AIIMS Gorakhpur. Hospital officials described the surgery as a reflection of advanced surgical expertise, coordinated multidisciplinary care, and a strong commitment to treating complex cases in eastern Uttar Pradesh and neighboring Bihar.
