AIIMS, Health Ministry Train 350 Experts to Manage Medical Oxygen Across India
During the COVID-19 crisis, India saw how important medical oxygen is to save lives. To make sure the country is better prepared for the future, AIIMS New Delhi and the Ministry of Health have trained 350 master trainers who will now guide doctors and hospitals across all states and union territories on how to manage oxygen properly.
The training is not only about running machines but also about using oxygen carefully, just like a medicine. A special guidebook on oxygen use was also launched during the program.
AIIMS Director Prof. M. Srinivas said, “Medical oxygen should be treated like a drug. Every hospital must use it carefully and learn from our COVID-19 experience.”
Dr. Pradeep Khasnobis from the Health Ministry explained that the government has already set up many oxygen plants and storage systems after COVID. To keep them ready for emergencies, regular mock drills are being done. He added that the newly trained experts should share their knowledge with hospitals even in small towns and villages.
Dr. Nirupam Madaan, Medical Superintendent of AIIMS, stressed that oxygen plants in districts must be kept in good working condition so patients never face a shortage.
Project leader Dr. Vijaydeep Siddharth said that training programs have already taken place in Bhubaneswar, Mangalagiri, Chandigarh, Pune, and New Delhi. These followed a national workshop that created a standard training plan for doctors and nurses.
With these 350 experts now ready, India’s health system is much stronger and better prepared to ensure that medical oxygen — the breath of life — will be there whenever patients need it.
