As India’s elderly population expands rapidly, the conversation around mental health and well-being in later life has never been more urgent. In a major step toward addressing this need, AIIMS New Delhi is set to host the country’s first-ever National Conference on Psycho-Gerontology, Geripsych 2025, from December 2, 2025, 4  to 2025, . 

The event will bring together clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, geriatricians, neurologists, counsellors, mental-health nurses, researchers, policy advocates and other professionals dedicated to improving the lives of older adults.

The conference is being jointly organised by the Department of Psychiatry and the Department of Geriatric Medicine at AIIMS, supported by the National Centre for Ageing — a state-of-the-art facility that plays a key role in specialised geriatric healthcare, training, and research. 

Designed as a landmark multidisciplinary event, Geripsych 2025 will feature a rich scientific programme that includes keynote addresses by two of the country’s most distinguished experts in geriatric mental health: Prof. N.K. Chadha, former Head of the Department of Psychology at the University of Delhi, and Prof. Kameshwar Prasad, former Head of the Department of Neurology at AIIMS New Delhi and a member of the AIIMS Institute Body.

Over the course of three days, the conference will explore a wide spectrum of issues affecting mental health in ageing.

 Leading researchers and clinicians from across India will speak on psychosocial challenges faced by older adults, advancements in treatment approaches, and emerging research trends. 

To promote hands-on learning, five in-depth workshops have been organised for participants. The entire programme has been approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India, underscoring its academic and clinical relevance.

The response to Geripsych 2025 has been overwhelming, with 350 delegates from across the country already registered. 

The conference will see more than 100 oral presentations and 60 poster presentations, highlighting the growing momentum and interest in geriatric mental health within India’s medical and scientific community.

According to the organising team, the overarching vision of Geripsych 2025 is to encourage knowledge exchange, showcase innovation, and build strong collaborative networks that can strengthen elder mental-healthcare systems across the country.

 The discussions will focus on improving the overall quality of life in old age, with emphasis on dignity, autonomy, participation, emotional resilience, and compassionate care.

The event is being organised in collaboration with the Indian Association for Geriatric Mental Health and the Indian Association for Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

 Together, these institutions aim to make Geripsych 2025 a major milestone in shaping a more inclusive, informed, and supportive ecosystem for India’s ageing population.
