In a powerful message of service beyond duty, Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and his wife Sunita Dwivedi have pledged to donate their organs, urging citizens—especially the youth and members of the armed forces—to join the national movement for organ donation.

Standing in Delhi, Gen Dwivedi spoke passionately about the importance of giving the “gift of life.” He pointed to the recent amendments in the National Organ Donation and Allocation Program, which now prioritize female recipients and the families of donors when it comes to organ allocation. Calling it a “great initiative,” he said it would inspire many more to step forward.

“This is a great initiative to encourage organ donation. I want to appeal to the youth and armed forces officials to make the resolution of organ donation. Let us pledge to spread this message of organ donation and make it a national campaign,” Gen Dwivedi said.

India continues to grapple with a severe shortage of organs despite the rising number of patients in need. The Army Chief’s pledge is being seen as not just a symbolic gesture, but as a rallying call for citizens to come together and transform organ donation into a nationwide movement of hope and humanity.
