Community Walkathon Marks World Heart Day with a Strong Message on Heart Health

Greater Noida came alive with energy and purpose as ShardaCare Healthcity, one of North India’s leading multispecialty hospitals, organized a spirited walkathon to mark World Heart Day. Held a day in advance, the event echoed this year’s global theme, “Don’t Skip a Beat,” and aimed to drive home a simple yet powerful message — prevention and lifestyle choices are the real shields against heart disease.

The three-kilometer walk, flagged off from ShardaCare Healthcity and culminating at the nearby cricket ground, drew more than 1,000 participants. From schoolchildren full of zest to senior citizens walking with determination, the crowd reflected how heart health is everyone’s concern. Leading the event was popular radio jockey RJ Rahul Makin, who kept spirits high with his trademark enthusiasm.

The walkathon wasn’t just about steps; it was about conversations, commitments, and community. Among the distinguished guests were Mr. Y.K. Gupta, Vice Chairman of Sharda Hospital; Mr. Sandeep Dogra, Group COO of ShardaCare Healthcity; Shri Kamlesh Bahadur Ji, IPS and Commandant, Police Line, Greater Noida; Ms. Snehlata, Additional SP, Greater Noida; and Shri Surinder Kumar, Deputy Commandant, BSF.

Adding weight to the occasion were some of the region’s leading cardiac experts, including Dr. Shiladitya Roy Choudhury, Dr. Akhil Kumar Rustagi, Dr. Vivek Tandon, Dr. Praveen Mishra, Dr. Shubendu Mohanty, and Dr. Gautam Agarwal. Their presence underscored the seriousness of heart health and the need for early prevention.

Following the walk, participants enjoyed an engaging Doctors’ Talk session and fun heart-health activities. RJ Rahul Makin kept the atmosphere lively with interactive games, while the hospital offered discounted cardiac check-ups, health awareness camps, and expert consultations.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rishabh Gupta, Managing Director of ShardaCare Healthcity, stressed the hospital’s mission:

“World Heart Day is an opportunity to remind people that heart health should never be neglected. The walkathon is one step forward in uniting the community against the silent epidemic of heart disease. We want to not just treat but also educate — encouraging regular exercise, balanced nutrition, stress management, and timely screenings as part of daily life.”

Echoing the sentiment, Dr. Kousar Shah, Group CEO, ShardaCare Healthcity, highlighted how heart disease is no longer limited to any one age group.

“It affects young professionals, the elderly, and everyone in between. Through initiatives like this, we want to bring the community together to prioritize preventive care and embrace healthier habits.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Sandeep Dogra, Group COO, emphasized that most cardiovascular problems can be linked to lifestyle factors.

“With awareness and early intervention, these risks can be managed. Such initiatives help us connect directly with the community and inspire proactive steps toward heart health,” he said.

The walkathon ended on a high note, leaving participants not only energized but also empowered with the knowledge that every small lifestyle change counts. By stepping forward together, the community made a collective promise: to protect their hearts and ensure they truly don’t skip a beat.
