In a significant move aimed at transforming patient care, Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital is set to undergo a massive renovation of its Emergency Block—one of the busiest facilities in East Delhi. 

To ensure the upgrade happens without disrupting critical services, the hospital has decided to temporarily shift all Accident & Emergency (A&E) operations to Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital (RGGSSH), Tahirpur. 

Hospital officials confirmed that the Emergency Block will be completely remodeled into a modern, future-ready facility.   The project is expected to be executed in a strict time-bound manner, with the aim of finishing it within the current financial year.

Once completed, the upgraded block will be handed over to the Public Works Department (PWD) for final commissioning.  During this period, GTB Hospital will rely on RGGSSH’s infrastructure to run all emergency services. 

 This includes shifting patient registration, reception, observation units, ICUs, operation theatres, diagnostic services, and emergency wards—all crucial components of day-to-day emergency care.   

Medical staff, technical personnel, and essential equipment will also move to RGGSSH to ensure seamless service delivery.  To guide the redevelopment, the hospital has set up a high-powered Technical Committee tasked with shaping a state-of-the-art emergency block tailored to the needs of the next 10–15 years This expert panel will work hand-in-hand with PWD and maintain close coordination with RGGSSH during the transition. 

The committee is led by Dr. Gurbachan Singh, HoD of Neurosurgery, and brings together senior specialists across emergency medicine, anesthesia, orthopedics, radiodiagnosis, and laboratory services.

The members include Dr. Parmeshwar Ram, Dr. Jitender Singh, Dr. Rajesh Arora, Dr. Himanshu Agrawal, Dr. Anshuman Srivastava, Dr. Rohit Sharma, Dr. Seema Garg, and Dr. Lakshay Beriwal, who will serve as the Member Secretary.  Officials noted that the committee may induct more experts as the project progresses. 

The renovation marks one of the most ambitious upgrades undertaken at GTB Hospital in recent years. Once completed, the new Emergency Block is expected to significantly enhance patient experience, streamline emergency workflows, and strengthen trauma care for lakhs of patients who depend on the hospital every year.
