The Indian Medical Association (IMA) headquarters, along with its Junior Doctors’ Network (JDN) and Medical Student Network (MSN) standing committees, has voiced sharp opposition to the Maharashtra government’s decision to re-issue a notification allowing CCMP Homeopathy practitioners to register under the Maharashtra Medical Council.

The move, which comes despite the matter still being under judicial consideration, has triggered outrage among young doctors and medical students. The IMA has warned that equating modern medicine with an entirely different system amounts to a “Murder of Merit” and places patient safety in jeopardy.

“Modern medicine cannot be mixed with other systems. Such a decision will undermine medical education standards and put public health at serious risk,” the association said in a statement.

Backing the call for protest, the IMA Junior Doctors’ Network extended full support to a 24-hour token strike announced by IMA Maharashtra State and allied organisations. The strike will begin at 8 a.m. on September 18 and continue until 8 a.m. on September 19.

The IMA has appealed to all young doctors, resident doctors, and medical students to unite in solidarity. Leaders stressed that the issue is not merely about professional dignity but also about protecting patients’ right to safe, evidence-based care.

The association urged the Maharashtra government to immediately withdraw the notification “in the larger interest of medical education, professional integrity, and patient welfare.”
