In a significant move aimed at redefining India's response to the rapidly growing burden of metabolic disorders, the Global Metabolic Health Alliance (GMHA) will convene a high-level Founding Identity Workshop of the Country Collective – India on July 17, 2026, bringing together some of the country's leading medical academicians and experts to develop a unified national roadmap for metabolic health.

The strategic meeting, which will be held at the GMHA International Headquarters in Noida, is expected to go beyond the traditional conference format and focus on developing a long-term vision for tackling India's mounting challenges related to obesity, diabetes, fatty liver disease, cardiovascular disorders, and other interconnected metabolic conditions.

According to the organisers, India is witnessing an alarming rise in metabolic diseases, with patients developing these conditions at increasingly younger ages. Experts also point to the growing overlap between diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, and liver disorders, making it essential to move away from fragmented, specialty-based healthcare towards an integrated national strategy.

Prof. Amitesh Aggarwal, Chair of the GMHA Country Collective – India, said the initiative is designed to create a cohesive framework that reflects India's unique healthcare challenges while contributing meaningful scientific leadership on the global stage.

"The objective is not to organise another academic meeting, but to build a shared national identity and strategic direction for metabolic health that can influence research, clinical practice, prevention programmes, and health policy over the coming decade," he said.

The three-hour, invitation-only workshop will bring together a select group of distinguished academic leaders to deliberate on India's metabolic health priorities. Discussions will focus on defining the country's national metabolic health narrative, identifying scientific and implementation priorities for the next decade, exploring areas where India can offer original global thought leadership, and developing an integrated framework that connects research, clinical care, prevention strategies, and policy initiatives.

The outcome of the workshop will be a strategic identity document intended to serve as the foundation for future multicentric research collaborations, national expert roundtables, implementation toolkits, and policy engagement. Organisers believe the framework could eventually position India as a global reference point in metabolic health rather than merely a participant in international discussions.

The event reflects GMHA's broader vision of creating country-specific platforms that encourage collaboration among clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and public health experts to address the complex and rapidly evolving burden of metabolic diseases.
