In a major leap for cancer diagnostics in India, MedGenome has launched the country’s first CNS Tumor Methylation Classifier Test, a cutting-edge tool that can accurately differentiate and classify over 90 types of brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumors.

The diagnostic breakthrough was introduced at a precision oncology symposium in Mumbai, hosted by MedGenome in collaboration with Illumina, the global leader in DNA sequencing technologies. The event brought together nearly 200 oncologists, neurosurgeons, pathologists, researchers, and doctoral students to discuss the future of precision medicine in neuro-oncology.

Brain and CNS tumors remain among the most complex cancers to diagnose, often requiring multiple layers of investigation. Traditional histology has been the backbone of tumor diagnosis, but MedGenome’s new test goes several steps further.

By studying the entire genome using DNA methylation profiling—a method that examines chemical modifications across the genome—the test creates a unique tumor “signature.” This is then compared to a global reference database to pinpoint the exact tumor subtype, even in rare or difficult-to-classify cases.

According to MedGenome, the results not only enhance diagnostic accuracy but also guide personalized treatment strategies, helping doctors predict how a tumor will respond to specific therapies.

The new CNS Tumor Methylation Classifier Test is aligned with the World Health Organization’s 2021 guidelines for CNS tumor classification. Delivering results within 21 days, the test also includes WHO grade assignment, genome-wide copy number profiling, and detection of key gene alterations—matching global gold standards in neuro-oncology diagnostics.

With this launch, MedGenome strengthens its position as a pioneer in genomics-based healthcare. Over the past decade, the company has conducted more than 500,000 exome and genome sequences, partnered with over 6,000 hospitals, and collaborated with more than 18,000 clinicians across India.
