The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has extended the Round-1 choice filling period for NEET PG Counselling 2025 until further notice. The decision follows a major change to the postgraduate medical seat matrix in response to new regulatory inputs. 

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) stated in a notice issued by the DGHS on Wednesday that the revision was necessary due to changes in postgraduate (PG) seat data provided by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the withdrawal of 169 DNB seats by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) after the counselling round had begun. 

The MCC has explained that it is now amending the seat matrix "in the larger interest of candidates" to guarantee that the reservation policy is followed and that all allocations remain valid according to official rules. A revised schedule and updated seat matrix for Round 1 will be available soon on the official MCC website. The committee further mentioned that the State PG Counselling schedule will be changed to reflect the updated seat data. 

The NEET PG Counselling procedure determines admissions to thousands of postgraduate medical seats across India, using both the All India Quota and the State Quota. Each round of counselling is based on authentic seat data from medical colleges and hospitals regulated by NMC and NBE. 

The regulatory authorities discovered differences between the previously issued matrix and updated information, prompting this year's adjustment. By withdrawing 169 DNB seats and reapplying for the reserve roster, the MCC hopes to avoid legal or procedural complications later in the admission cycle. 

The unexpected postponement has left thousands of medical graduates in the dark, as many had already confirmed their preferences based on the previous schedule. Aspirants have expressed concern that continuous postponements may delay the commencement of academic sessions and internship programs. 

Experts agree that, while inconvenient, such modifications are necessary to ensure transparency and fairness in the competitive admissions process. The MCC's decision to temporarily suspend advising guarantees that candidates are not disadvantaged by false data. 

Candidates should regularly check the updated schedule and seat matrix on the official MCC website. The committee has promised candidates that fresh material will be available soon, allowing them to make informed decisions.
