Safdarjung Hospital’s Burns Department on High Alert Ahead of Diwali Festivities

As Diwali, the festival of lights, approaches, Safdarjung Hospital’s Burns and Plastic Surgery Department has urged citizens to celebrate responsibly while ensuring they take all necessary safety precautions. The department, one of the country’s leading centers for burn treatment, has stepped up its preparedness to handle a possible surge in firecracker-related injuries during the festive period.

To meet the expected rise in burn cases, the hospital has enhanced its manpower by deploying additional doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, and technicians. Adequate stocks of dressing materials, medicines, injections, and other essential equipment have been arranged in advance. The hospital has also readied extra ambulances and trolleys to ensure swift transportation and care for patients in need.

Round-the-clock operation theatre services have been put in place to enable immediate surgical attention for critical burn victims. Additional space has been managed within the department to accommodate a large number of patients, and twenty beds have been kept vacant exclusively for Diwali emergencies, along with ten extra beds in the Burns Casualty section.

In order to provide holistic and multidisciplinary care, specialists from other departments such as Orthopedics, Anesthesia, and Ophthalmology have been mobilized to work in coordination with the burns team.

A senior official from the Burns Department emphasized the importance of safety during celebrations, noting that most burn injuries are preventable. “With a little caution, we can ensure that Diwali remains a festival of joy and light, not pain and regret,” the official said.

Safdarjung Hospital’s proactive measures reflect its commitment to public safety, ensuring that even as the city lights up in celebration, expert medical care remains just a call away for those in need.
