Leading doctors and specialists gathered in Vashi to discuss ways to improve care for mothers and newborns, with a strong focus on early diagnosis, standardised treatment, and teamwork across medical disciplines.

The event, titled Perinatology Subspecialty CME 2026, was organised by Motherhood Hospitals, Kharghar, in collaboration with the Navi Mumbai Association of Pediatrics. Held at The Regenza by Tunga, the conference brought together over 100 obstetricians, pediatricians, and neonatologists for a day of intensive knowledge sharing.

The discussions covered the entire journey of care—from pregnancy to a newborn’s early development. Experts focused on managing high-risk pregnancies, including complex decisions around delivery timing in conditions like fetal growth restriction. They also explored advanced topics such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia, critical heart defects, and abnormalities affecting the brain and kidneys.

A major highlight of the conference was the emphasis on standardising clinical protocols. Doctors discussed the use of “neuroprotection bundles” in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) to improve outcomes for premature and high-risk infants. The safety and timing of vaccinations for preterm babies were also examined in detail.

The event went beyond theory, offering hands-on training through practical workstations. Participants were trained in early NICU interventions and post-discharge neurodevelopmental screening, helping them apply learning directly in clinical settings.

Dr. Anish Pillai, Lead Consultant at Motherhood Hospitals, stressed that improving newborn survival and long-term health requires strict adherence to evidence-based protocols and close collaboration among specialists. He noted that bridging the gap between diagnosis during pregnancy and care after birth is critical for better outcomes.

Dr. Rupali Kadam, Facility Director at the hospital, highlighted the importance of early and accurate diagnosis during pregnancy. She said that identifying conditions like ventriculomegaly or hydronephrosis early allows doctors to plan better care and prepare families for the challenges ahead.

Echoing the importance of collaboration, Dr. Mangayarkarshi Sinha, President of IAP Navi Mumbai, said such platforms are essential for strengthening medical expertise at the regional level. She added that continuous learning and shared knowledge are key to tackling the evolving challenges in perinatal care.

The conference concluded with research presentations and e-poster sessions, encouraging young doctors and trainees to contribute to academic and clinical advancements.

With a clear focus on precision, preparedness, and partnership, experts said initiatives like this are crucial in improving outcomes for both mothers and newborns—ensuring safer births and healthier futures.
