In a move aimed at eliminating corruption and making hospital visits smoother for patients, Delhi’s Swami Dayanand Hospital has introduced a QR code–based system for OPD registration.

 The initiative is designed to stop touts who often charge money from patients to get their OPD cards made or to speed up the registration process.

QR codes have been placed on the first and second floors of the hospital. By simply scanning the code, patients can generate a token number, which allows them to proceed to the counter and then directly to the doctor’s room for consultation.

Dr. Sunita Kujur, Medical Superintendent of Swami Dayanand Hospital, said the system is easy to use and open to all patients. An attendant or the patient can scan the QR code using apps such as Paytm or PhonePe. After scanning, they will receive an OTP, which needs to be entered to generate a token number.

Once the token is generated, patients can inform the counter staff about their token number and the health issue they want to consult for. Their token number will then appear on the display board outside the OPD rooms, indicating when it is their turn to meet the doctor.

According to Dr. Kujur, the new system will reduce the chances of middlemen interfering in the process and make registration more transparent. At the same time, the hospital will continue to offer the conventional method of getting an OPD card for those who prefer the traditional process.
