Security Concerns Raised at LHMC, Associated Hospitals

Concerns have been raised about the security arrangements at Lady Hardinge Medical College and its associated hospitals, one of the city’s major government hospitals, after reports of negligence and misconduct surfaced in recent days.

Videos and images circulating among the public appear to show some security guards asleep while on duty near OPD sections, emergency areas, and general wards. These visuals have caused worry among patients and their families who visit the hospital in large numbers every day.

Security services at the hospital are managed by a private agency, Isha Productional Security Guard Private Limited. Some sources have raised concerns about how effectively duties are being carried out. There are also claims that complaints related to the contract process have been submitted to the Central Vigilance Commission, although there has been no official confirmation so far.

Some patients and attendants have alleged that a few guards ask for money in exchange for assistance, such as quicker access to services or help with procedures. A video shared online appears to show a guard accepting cash, which has added to public concern. However, these claims are yet to be independently verified by authorities.

There have also been reports suggesting lapses in discipline inside the hospital premises. In some videos, individuals in uniform are seen smoking, and in one instance, a guard is heard making casual remarks about such behavior. These incidents have raised questions about monitoring and supervision.

Social worker Amarnath has also alleged that some guards may have been deployed without complete verification procedures. He has called for a review of the system and suggested a more transparent process for future appointments.

The hospital serves thousands of patients every day and is also an important teaching institution for medical students. Given its importance, observers say there is a need to review the current security arrangements and ensure proper standards are maintained.

While no official statement has been issued yet, there is growing expectation that authorities will look into the matter and take appropriate steps to improve the situation and maintain public trust.
