Stryker, Max Smart Hospital Partner to Advance Robotic Joint Replacement Training in India

Medical technology company Stryker has partnered with Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, Saket to establish a dedicated training and education centre for robotic-arm assisted joint replacement surgeries, marking another step in India’s growing adoption of advanced orthopaedic technologies.


The collaboration aims to strengthen surgeon training, improve clinical education, and expand access to robotic-assisted joint replacement procedures across the country. The training centre, to be based at Max Smart Hospital in Saket, will focus on equipping orthopaedic surgeons with hands-on experience in robotic-assisted surgical systems and advanced treatment protocols.

The initiative comes at a time when India is witnessing a steady rise in arthritis and joint-related disorders, alongside increasing demand for precision-driven surgical procedures that can potentially improve recovery outcomes and enhance patient care standards.

Commenting on the partnership, Abhay Soi, Chairman and Managing Director of Max Healthcare Institute Ltd., said the collaboration reflects the group’s focus on building a future-ready healthcare ecosystem driven by technology, innovation, and continuous medical learning. He noted that the initiative would help strengthen orthopaedic care delivery while supporting skill development for the next generation of surgeons.

Dr. Ramneek Mahajan, Chairman – Orthopaedics, Joint Replacement and Chief Robotic Joint Replacement at Max Smart Super Speciality Hospital, said robotic-assisted joint replacement represents an important advancement in orthopaedic surgery due to its ability to offer greater precision and personalised surgical planning. However, he added that the long-term impact of the technology depends significantly on structured training and effective clinical adoption.

According to him, the centre will serve as a platform for practical surgeon training, knowledge-sharing, and dissemination of best practices in robotic joint replacement procedures.

Stryker executives said India continues to emerge as a key market for robotic-assisted surgeries as healthcare infrastructure evolves and awareness around advanced treatment technologies increases.

John Collings, President, APAC, Stryker, said the company is working closely with healthcare institutions across Asia Pacific to scale robotic-assisted surgical capabilities and strengthen surgeon education programs. He added that the partnership with Max Smart Hospital would help improve access to advanced joint replacement care and support higher treatment standards.
