Sometimes, out of the deepest sorrow comes the greatest gift to humanity. That’s exactly what happened in Delhi, when Dadichi Dehdan Samiti (DDDS) made history by facilitating its first-ever fetal donation at AIIMS. 

The courage behind this act came from the Jain family. Vandana Jain, only 32 years old, suffered a heartbreaking tragedy when her pregnancy ended in the fifth month. At a moment when most families would be consumed by grief, the Jains chose a different path.

They decided to donate the fetus so that doctors and researchers could use it for medical learning and research — a choice that turned personal pain into hope for society. 

The process began early in the morning. At 8 a.m. on September 7, 2025, Mr G.P. Tayal reached out to Mr. Sudhir Gupta, Vice President of Dadichi Dehdan Samiti. From that moment, Gupta took the lead in guiding the complex and sensitive process.

With his initiative and constant coordination, the committee’s volunteers and AIIMS officials worked throughout the day to complete the formalities. Finally, by 7 p.m., the donation was carried out successfully.

Why This Matters For years, Dadichi Dehdan Samiti has been inspiring people to pledge their eyes, organs, and even their bodies after death. Thousands have already joined this noble cause.

But a fetal donation is rare, almost unheard of in India.   By taking this step, the Jain family showed that even in loss, families can create meaning and leave behind a legacy for science and education.  The Role of Leadership Much of the credit also goes to Sudhir Gupta, whose quick response and compassionate leadership ensured the process was completed with dignity. 

 As Vice President of DDDS, Gupta has been at the forefront of spreading awareness about organ and body donation. His role in this historic moment reflects the spirit of the committee — to transform grief into a gift for society. 

Speaking about the moment, Mr. Sudhir Gupta said: “This was not an easy decision for the family. Their courage at a time of such personal tragedy is extraordinary. By donating the fetus, they have created a gift for medical research and education that will help society for years to come. Dadichi Dehdan Samiti only played the role of a bridge — the true credit goes to the Jain family for their strength and humanity.” 

A Gift Beyond Words Doctors believe this donation will open new opportunities for research and medical teaching.   But beyond science, this act is about humanity.

The Jain family turned their grief into strength, and with the guidance of DDDS, gave society a gift that cannot be measured in words.  This story reminds us of one simple truth: with compassion, courage, and commitment, ordinary people — guided by leaders with vision — can change the future of medicine. 

 And sometimes, the greatest heroes are those who find hope in the middle of heartbreak.

“This fetus can be used in valuable research and education, opening new avenues for medical understanding,” said Prof. Dr. Subrata Basu Ray, Head of the Department of Anatomy at AIIMS, New Delhi. He also praised the Jain family’s extraordinary courage, adding, “Their decision, taken in the middle of immense personal pain, is a shining example of humanity’s service to science and society.”
