Delhi: URDA representatives to contest DMC polls

United Resident Doctors Association (URDA), a national body of resident doctors, has decided to contest upcoming Delhi Medical Council polls which are slated on March 8, 2020.

In an urgent notification, the doctors’ body has said that for the first time in history a panel of eight contestants of young doctors will challenge the existing lobby culture of big associations which is run by few seniors for years in an autocratic way. The notification is signed by URDA, Chairman, Dr Ankit Om.

“We are going to break this deadlock created by our own 104 years old DMA and 94 years IMA. Both have repeatedly failed to secure safety, job prospects and academics of young doctors. For the last five years, we realized why we could not achieve our basic demands after repeated agitation and movements,” added the URDA.

“Lack of will among existing panelists due to their ignorance for young doctors have already made the youth in crisis. Neither young doctors are getting better academics, financial security, job security and not even they are allowed safety at work place,” said the doctors body.

“Female security is always our concern but we cannot see any change in perspective of doctors as we feel there is lack of sensitivity existing so called leaders who have made association of doctors hijacked and confined which is key of our current crisis and young doctors are lost from the mainstream gradually,” it said.

“In fact, deliberately by honorable seniors, young doctors must be in these associations to lead the change this existing fail model of prestigious associations,” said URDA.

“Despite doing thankless job, we are not getting justified and dignified image in the media, public, political representatives are persistently targeting our fraternity and we are losing self-esteem in our young medicos which is coming as cause of prevailing suicide these days,” lamented the URDA.
