Doordarshan studio shut, staffer dies of corona

 BS RAWAT

Doordarshan News has shut down its studio in Delhi after a 53-year-old staff member, who worked as a lighting assistant, succumbed to Covid-19.

Following the death, DD News has asked more than 50 personnel of its camera division to go into isolation while the building will be sanitized.

Prasar Bharati, the holding corporation of both Doordarshan and All India Radio, has decided to shift the transmission of DD News for two days to its office in Khelgaon.

Sources said that the lighting assistant had participated in interviews of at least two senior officials, one from the railways and the other from another ministry. He had also visited the AIIMS area around 12 days ago.

“We have made contingency plans so that News Operations are unaffected by leveraging our pool of studios in Delhi,” an official at DD News said.

He said that DD News is calling the staff for work on a rotational basis, with each of them working two days in a week.
