Successful human trial of Covaxin in Rohtak-PGI

Speaking to the media, Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij informed, “Today doses of Covaxin, a covid vaccine developed by Bharat Biotech International Limited, was administered to three persons at Rohtak-PGI. None of the three showed any adverse reactions of the vaccine. More human trials of the vaccine will be conducted soon at the hospital."


Dr Savita Verma, Professor, Department of Pharmacology, is the principal investigator of the trial while Dr Dhruv Choudhary, State Nodal Officer for Covid, and Dr Rakesh Verma, Professor, Department of Community Medicine, are the co-investigators of the trial.

Dr Savita added that Covaxin’s first trial was conducted on animals which was successful. Gradually, its trials on humans are being conducted. The vaccine can take one year to come and if in the middle the positive results come during the trials, then the vaccine can be brought for people,” she said.

Dr OP Kalra, VC, Rohtak-PGI, informed that the trial of the vaccine will be conducted in two phases. "In the first phase, 375 volunteers will participate and in second 750 will participate,” he added.
