The government has once again urged people to avoid large gatherings, including parties and weddings, to prevent spread of corona virus.

Addressing the press on the ongoing corona situation and Covid vaccination, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said that public compliance for Covid appropriate behavior cannot be diluted. Please avoid large gatherings such as parties and weddings. These could be super spreading events, he added.

Bhushan’s comments have come after he was asked about the surge in coronavirus cases in certain states.

Emphasizing that corona is still under control. Bhushan pointed out that as per WHO, if 140 tests per million are being conducted per day and case positivity rate is at 5% or below, it means the Covid 19 pandemic is under control. We are very close to that mark at 5.11% overall case positivity rate, he informed.

He stressed that although certain states in the country have seen a surge in the number of active cases, the fact remains that the recovered cases are more than 97% and active cases are still less than 2%.

On vaccination, Bhushan informed that more than 1.48 crore doses of the Covid 19 vaccine have been administered till 1 pm on March 2, 2021. Out of this, 2.08 lakh doses have been given to people who are 45 years to 59 years of age with comorbidities and people above 60 years of age, he added.
