Generally healthcare workers express their gratitude to doctors on occasion of Doctor’s Day but this time Doctor’s day will be unique where community will express its gratitude to the doctors who risked their lives during testing time of COVID19 pandemic and remained a constant source of inspiration and assurance the community looked for at the those darkest hours.

In a letter to the Director General of Health Services of all states and union territories, Prof (Dr) Atul Goel, Director General of Health Services, Union Health Ministry, have suggested various programs to celebrate the mega event.

“A cultural event of recitations, songs and performances, singing the glory of the country’s doctors may be conducted in medical Colleges/Institutes, State Government Hospitals, District hospitals, Community Health Centers, and all Health and Wellness Centers,” the letter read

“Administration should organize this event at prominent places in every district and block headquarters. An award should be given to all practicing doctors who are above the age of 75 years. The event is to be carried out at every block and led by the Block Administration. The award could be a certificate, a rose or anything found suitable and respectable for the award winner,” the letter read.

Dr Goel said that many doctors died hero while trying to save the patients but went on becoming legends to start a series of folk tales that will define optimism in the years to come.

He stated that dhe Directorate General of Health Services is proud to mark this occasion with nation-wide community involvements, with particular focus on the hospitals.

“On this occasion, in every hospital, you are requested to display “Happy Doctors Day’ in the OPD and entry gate for making the community aware of the event. The occasion may also be marked by honouring outstanding doctor (s) from your hospital!,” he advised in the letter.
